Blatant jumping onto the hippie bandwagon by a rather unhip looking couple in 1968. The hook it's built around is irresistible. The first verse utterly ridiculous. It's been featured in hip hop samples and ads since. The fact that it's a pretty cynical exercise that didn't reflect the real nature of its time has been highlighted by its use in the closing features of a Mad Men episode where Don and Megan watch the footage of the scene of Robert Kennedy's assassination with their backs to one another. This doesn't stop the hook remaining quite great!
