Song(s) of the Day # 3,596 Bad History Month

'Keep on walking through the snowstorm. Feeling grateful for the night...'

A shifting, shimmering record I stumbled over late last night. Botson's Stan Precher, or for the current post Bad History Month, and their latest record God Is Luck. Their second album this year.

These is rolling tumbleweed scrum of conscious. Poetic and literate American Folk Blues with something in common with David Berman, Keven Morby Jeffrey Silverstein  and the Beats, but brave enough to trust its own co-ordinates and navigate its own seas

This bubbles and toils for the length of it's run. It's a very engaged and busy record. Wandering scat Blues. Duelling guitars. I listened last night and got drawn right in to the heart of it. I'm listening again and getting drawn right in again.

U love records that have the courage to construct their own unuverse, That;s taking place on God Is Luck. Throw yourself into it. You'll find yourself amply rewarded.

  1. Thanks, Bruce, I need to give this another go! Loved True Delusion (thought I must have recommended it at the time, but not sure), but it was 7 tracks in 15 minutes and much more immediate. Didn't give this one much time and inevitably moved on to the next record... But this is a good time of year to take a step back and revisit some albums you didn't spend enough time with.
