The 'Oddness' of 2023

Writing this blog on a daily basis, and focusing for the most part on newly released music, you can't help but discern certain shapes and trends. This year I've been pleased to see the irritating spectre of young bands insisting on being Post Punk has receded somewhat which I must say is a good thing.

In its place I've noticed there has been a rise of not a movement as such, so much as a tendency. A set of odd, full on cult concept  albums of bizarre and inexplicable peculiarity and obscurity. Some of these are properly out of their trees. They're all wonderful records at one and the same time. People are Strange. Jim was right. Your explanation as to why records like these are starting to foreground themselves so readily and frequently and seem set to continue to do so is as good as anyone else's. Check out these albums anyhow. Some of them are simply fantastic acts of ingenuity and creativity.
