500 Greatest Albums of the 1980s ... Ranked! # 283 New Order - Brotherhood

'When they embrced technology . New Order also weirdly became a better guitar group.'

I confess I found New Order slightly prosaic at times. Perhaps not a hip opinion to voice. Barney's voice was weak and slightly bloodless. I preferred McCulloch. Or Robert Smith. There's plenty going on on Brotherhood though. It sounds like a vigorous and disciplined workout. Nevertheless, they always miss Curtis' lyrical vision. Some things are irreplaceable. But they're in less pain.
