Great American Bands of the Eighties # 4 - True West

OK so I've just posted that Guardian article about The Paisley Underground scene. But that led me to this great website and feature about True West, one of the bands loosely connected to that scene. I bought their first album Drifters at the time and though I enjoyed several tracks on reflection it's a bit patchy. Great guitars and echoes of the golden age of San Francisco with the intensity of Creedence and Television thrown into the mix. But also songs where the band lose their focus and seem to drift (appropriately enough given the album's title). But this feature directed me towards songs from their previous mini-LP Hollywood Holiday. This is just magnificent. Blazing psychedelia. Twin, duelling guitars in the best tradition of the two bands just mentioned with a dash of Barrett's Pink Floyd, (non-coincidentally their first single was a cover of Lucifer Sam) . Read the article cited for a full story on one of the great lost bands.
