American States #1 Tennesee - Whiskeytown

'It's difficult to go on knowing you're out there somewhere. Vacant parking lots across the street remind me I'm going nowhere'

This should keep me going. One a week for a year until they're all done. Only rules. The State's name must be in the title and the song itself should be interesting in some way. This is quite typical of what Whiskeytown did. Lean and spare and full of space. Country. But with the knowhow of the New Wave. There's some Replacements in Ryan Adam's vocal style.  Lyrics written with unembroidered observations worthy of the short story tradition of John Cheever or Raymond Carver. Firmly in line and honestly indebted to Gram Parsons work. Picking out a moment in time. Nailing down what is going on outside and inside. So well done you might as well be there.
