The Windy City's main Garage Rock ne'er do well punk players. Originally called The Shadows before they discovered there was already a band going by that name. Neophytes! Major players on their local scene and it's easy to hear why if you buy yourself a compilation "The Stones, Animals and Yardbirds took the Chicago Blues and gave it an English interpretation. We've taken the English version of the Blues and re-added a Chicago touch," This is a pretty good description. Unfortunately that was not a good enough job description to guarantee them the lifetime salary the snarl in the lead vocals seems to think they deserve.
1. Gloria
Their one big hit. Sold over a million copies. Which probably makes it the definitive American version of the Them song that pretty much every US garage band worth its salt played. They had to edit the original 'She comes to my room' line before it passed the censors.
2. Oh Yeah
This one made its way to Lenny Kaye's immortal Nuggets Compilation. Bo Diddley's originally. Reached # 39.
3. I'm Gonna Make You Mine
4. Someone Like Me
4. Bad Little Woman
5. Gospel Zone
5.
They were pretty much gone by 1968 but they left their mark. Lead singer Jim Sohns punched out Sid Vicious in a New York night club in 1978 sending him hurtling down a flight of stairs. This is a very, very good thing! This band is a very, very great thing. Invest in something by them!
