Best Ever Albums - Top 1,000 Albums # 3 The Beatles - Abbey Road

Usually I play Abbey Road on Sunday mornings. It just feels like a Sunday morning record for some reason. It sounded just fine just now as my Saturday morning bath ran though I don't like every song on the first side. Side Two is majestic every time and can be quite an emotional listen. It feels elgaic like they're bringing down the curtain on the sixties. It's certainly got more fun in its bones than either of the two records we've got left on this particular rundown.

Personally I go for Rubber Soul or Revolver over this one generally. There The Beatles are entirely together. Unified. Here they're coming apart. And good as they still are at papering the cracks, it's as clear as the moustaches and beards on their faces and their longer hair and longer songs that their minds are elsewhere now. Generally with their respective partners. It's only natural. But they have enough respect and love for their fans and their legacy that they hold it together as only The Beatles can until The End. Shame about Maxwell's' Silver Hammer. Oh Paul. It's smut.
