'Beans, beans are good for your heart !!!' As the old schoolyard chant used to assert. I'm not even going to open that particular can of worms.I'm sure logical cause and effect chains could probably be cited but right now it seems neither the time nor the place.
So let's move on. To Beans. If in doubt these days, in want of something to listen to, checking out the latest Australian guitar band coming own the Conveyor Belt of Pop is never the worst option.
Beans are a hairy and muscled looking quartet from the Wadarrung Country, around the garage scene of Geelong. They're immediately closer to the King Gizzard tradition than the Courtney one. Theirs is a well oiled roadfit sound.
New album Boots N Cats is a fascinating proposition. A series ofPsychedelic Funk work outs that reminded me at various points of The Meters, Can, Funkadelic, The James Brown Band, Witch and Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band.
That's an eclectic and challenging set of reference points. But Beans make it work. Remarkably. The lyrical preoccupations are consistently engrossing too. Beans create their own work from their record collections, endeavour, creativity and the Proggy jams this inspores.. An invigorating start to the day,
