Song(s) of the Day # 3,683 C Turtle

Sometimes you need to listen to a record at the right time of day and in the right mood to fully appreciate, process and enjoy it. Otherwise you will have to press the eject button. Either for its or your own sake.

I experienced this emotion and feeling with London quartet  C Turtle's latest Expensive Thrills this week. It was just too unapologetically brash and jarring. Too reminiscent of spending a long alcoholic evening in a Camden basement venue in the early Nineties.

This is a band that are likely to remind you of erm.... My Bloody Valentine to hazard a guess. They are also likely to remind you of any of the waves of Indie that came in their wake but weren't nearly as good as MBV despite their individual merits.

Not an essential record. But a meandering curious one you might care to cup an ear to. Thanks once more to Darren Jones for directing me to the waters where the Turtle could be found and appreciated in its natural habitat. We chose not to fish it out and despatch it to the Captain's Table. C. Turtle swam off into clear waters, Sometimes this seems the right thing to do.

  1. I know what you mean! I wasn't sure on first listen, particularly when it goes Sonic Youth noodly for a few tracks near the end. It did grow on me, though, after a couple more listens. Been laid up with a bug for the last few days, which has hampered my listening... Would like to give it another go.
