The first This Mortal Coil album from 1984. The first of a number of great musical gifts to the planet. Chamber Goth. Exquisite and agonised originals and covers. The covers were the important things for music lovers back then.. Covers of forgotten artists and songs which weren't readily available in those Pre Internet days before everything became readily available. It's an intersting question. Should everything be readily available?
Anyway, back then these covers inspired an unscratchable itch which inspired the likes of me to hunt the originals down.I'm not a huge fan of Cocteai Twins but Liz Fraser's cover of Tim Buckley's Song to the Siren is just exquisite. It was many years before I heard Tim's original. Both are objects in beauty and awe. I wouldn't care to choose between them. We're lucky to have both.There's plenty more to wonder at on here.
