Song(s) of the Day # 689 Widowspeak

At work yesterday I chanced upon four albums released this year across the course of the day. I fell in love with them all. Not a bad day in that respect. This is one of them. Will write more about the other three over the coming days. All Yours is a glossy, sleek guitar pop record. Mazzy Star is the one immediate comparison, so many American bands have picked up on that influence, but there's much more to it than that.

I can't post as much of it here as I'd like as there aren't direct YouTube links available for most of the songs though pretty much all of it is up there if you want to hear more. It's a damned consistent listen. Constantly a surprise from song to song. The record just glides. It's most obviously potent instrument is the voice of singer Molly Hamilton, glorious assured, something of a modern day Debbie Harry, which as high as praise gets. But the backing from the band is equally confident and inventive. Taking a whole raft of influences from country and indie stables and trotting off somewhere new. Listened through to it again, as and after I wrote this and love it more. All Yours. Put in the simplest terms. A glowing, radiant, life affirming album. Start to finish.
