'Mannered'.I like a bit of mannered. Particularly when it teams up with creative vision. Anna B Savage's You & I Are Earth, us the kind of album that if it is heard by the right ears and pushed by movers and shakers with the right sway could get a Mercury Award nomination a few months down the line.
It's an enchanting, more-ish album. One to fall into. The kind of thing to listen to at your study desk, (if you have one) as night falls. Headphones on. Something to listen to and fall in love with before turning in.
A very English sensibility is at work here. Savage gives her eccentricities full rein lyrically but in terms pf its mindset, which is really quite disciplined chambe folk ,it's immediately beguiling. It feels like Aldous Harding is trying her hand at making a Nick Drake album. Remarkably she pulls off almost everything she attempts. It's impressive.
She's off on tour in the UK and Ireland in the coming weeks. Then off to Europe and America as April becomes May. This is exciting adventure. A record to be pleasntly surprised by, incresingly intrigued and then come back and re-experience the rapture.
