The Pogues were a band apart. Even if they emerged as part of a movement. Of hard drinking and hard playing multi unstrumental bands who drew on Punk and Folk in equal measure. Rum,Sodomy & The Lash was their real arrival statement. They got in the charts. Appeared on Top Of The Pops got played on Radio One. With the man with the worst teeth in Rock & Roll at their head. In some ways Rum is a record that tells their story. It was as beautiful, as ugly, as poetic, as prifane, as timeless as poignant as anything they ever did. But they had plenty more wild cards up their sleeve. Glasses to drain. Cigarettes to smoke. Stories to tell.
