Nicole Yun's new album Matter. Gritty, determined American Indie Rock. Attitude and chords. 'Me Fronted Lemonheads,' in her own words.
Does Matter matter. It probably depends how much this kind of music means to you. This is very Nineties in terms of its structure and sensibility. Those who have a reasonable proportion of their record collection devoted to Indies Nineties; Juliana Hatfield, Buffalo Tom, Betty Serveert, will find much to enjoy.
All somewhat generic. This sets its course and establishes its coordinations early on and doesn't vary from them for its ten song, half hour duration. Durable stuff nonetheless.
Agree! I was looking forward to this, after liking her last album and the singles, but it wasn't one that demanded re-listening to that much. So I haven't.
