From the brilliantly conceived and realised album of covers of the entire Velvet Underground & Nico record which came out in 2021. I liked pretty much everything on it. It was a true act of love and devotion which went way beyond mere marketing instincts.
Sharon Van Etten's take on Femme Fatale is nicely done. Angel Olssen is there too, on backing vocals and together they intone grimly fixating on the menace of the song at the expense of its melody.
Their cover has a deathly pallor about it frankly and leads the listener to imagine that they're standing at the altar standing at an open casket with Edie Sedgwick or possibly Nico lying in it in cushioned splendour. Yikes! They stretch what is essentially a two and a half minute song to one that is almost five and don't waste a second. Next!
