1984 Singles # 48 The Bluebells

Sometimes simplicity is essence. The Bluebells understood that. In 1984  they scratched the charts briefly, They had an excellent Pop instinct, clearly loved The Monkees. Who in their right mind would not love The Monkees.  Bobby Bluebell was a shorter spit for Joey Ramone. These things matter.

When I think of the  band I'm always reminded of Emma Kate Pailthorpe,  the girl who lived next door to in 1984 in a long, quiet road opposite the National Physical Laboratory in Teddington who I liked but never had the nerve to ask if she liked me. I still think she liked me. In fact I know she did, She invited me round one evening and baked  me chocolate brownies while we watched Some Like it Hot together. These things are important too.

She had a 7 inch single of Cath, Innocent times. This was originally release as a Single im 1983, but fell short. They tried again with it in '84 and it grazed the Top Forty..
