Albums of the Year # 85 Adam Green - That Fucking Feeling

There's been little fanfare for That Fucking Feeling the latest solo album from former Moldy Peach Adam Green. Green is something of a stolid journeyman these days, churning out albums every couple of years generally characterised by laconic, alternative chamber narratives in the style of Serge Gainsbourg, Lee Hazlewood.  Jonathan Richman, Lou Reed, Scott Walker and Dean Wareham.

Devotees of  Green's work should lap this up. But you can't helpb ut feel that this deserves a larger audience than its likely to get. particularly given how many people buy Father John Misty, David Berman and Beck records when they're really not doing anything so vastly different from what's going on here.

Perhaps Green paints himself into a corner occaasionally given his self-consciously quirky, offbeat outsider schtik. You could draw a pretty much draw a line in that respect from Moldy Peaches to the songs on That Fucking Feeling. But the songs here are incomparably better constructed than the Peaches songs ever were, Green has developed into a distinguished and notable songsmith over the years but never quite lost his essntial maverick edge.

Anyhow, those in the know will know, applaud and relish this. This is another fine record, (though slightly short, it might have benefitted from fleshing out) and Green has made any number of fine ones down the years. Highly, but hughly recommended.
