Albums of the Year # 98 Those Pretty Wrongs - Holiday Camp

It's nice that there's still one original Big Star's member still hanging on in there. Silky locked drummer and singer of The India Song, Jody Stephens.

Stephe's has a new record out. Holiday Camp. his third in all since 2016 in current band Those Pretty Wrongs. It's a legacy record and the legacy he's caring for is the Big Star one. Particularly the legacy of their first two albums # 1 Record and Radio City.

These were two wonderful LP's and stand on their own in many ways as a reminder if how special Sixties Pop Music was while remaining of their time too. How it might have felt living through those years that followed them when it really might have felt that it was all over.

Stephens knows this and doesn't bother to attempt any reminders of anything else on here. This might as well be a tribute record with the added bonus of having an original member playing on it. He knows how good Big Star were, that they deserve to be remembered and revered and is doing his utmost to ensure that this happens in his declining years.

I enjoyed my forty minutes with Holiday Camp so much last night. It reminded me of Big Star and how wonderful it was to discover them first time round. How I love their records sweetness and nostalgia, their exquisite melodic touch. Stephens is doing his compadres more than proud.
