Mermaidens are a fresh faced trio from Wellington, New Zealand who are signed to Flying Nun's. Their third album, an eponymous one is out now and it's certainly lively.
Owing more in spirit to Belly and Veruca Salt than the classic Flying Nun roster this is gritty Grungey pop and is certainly engaging without really grabbing you by the throat and demanding your full attention at any point.
I'd have to say that Belly and Veruca Salt probably had pretty much the same effect on me. A support band you enjoy will waiting for the main course. Pleasant, but utterly generic.
