Song(s) of the Day # 1,082 Washboard Sam

A hokum street blues artist who cut hundreds of records in the thirties and forties often alongside stepbrother Big Bill Broonzy. A huge draw in the Chicago area during these years, his audience shrank after the war with the advent of the electric blues and he died in 1966 shortly after being persuaded by Willie Dixon and Memphis Slim to return to the stage. Hear that washboard sing!
