Thirty Days of C-86 # 5 The Soup Dragons

Buzzcocks were an enormously important band for many of the C-86 crop. Along with Ramones and Byrds and Orange Juice they provided a template that the untutored could ape sufficiently to rattle out songs from beginning to end without falling over onstage. This was perfectly good enough for The Soup Dragons whose first single Whole Wide World  b/w I Know Everything was a remarkably fine object. Great record sleeve and two fine, fizzing pop songs both shy of two minutes. The band went on to blot their copybook considerably by recording a shocking cover of The Stones', I'm Free in order to score themselves a hit, clamber aboard the baggy bandwagon and churn out many more poor records. Remember them this way instead.
