500 Greatest Albums of the 1980s ... Ranked! # 153 Style Council - Our Favourite Shop

Paul Weeller pretty much put down his guitar for much of the Eighties. Thousands mourned. Our Favourite Shop didn't appeal to me at the time. The cover was posed and gauched, the stylised Mod mannerisms were not wht I wanted as I turned twenty.

I confess my response listening this morning was not disimilar. Much of this leaves me cold. I disliked the Thatcher government as much as Weller and Talbot but I didn't want to stroke nt chin and shake my head or smoke a pipe. Some of the lyrics are cringeable. I preferred the upbeat singles for the most part.
