If Television weren't going to be in the American Singles or Album charts The Cars were a pretty good second better. They never achieved Television's fluid poetrym this is rare, but they never sounded bad coming out of the radio. Besides Television were never going to make it in the Midwest. Only the really, really cool kids were going to read French Symbolist Poetry there.
You don't really need Heartbeat City. If you're going to but a Cars record, apart from the Greatest Hits record, then the debut is the one you need. This one has Drive.on it. Great song if it's about taking the prettiest girl in your Hugh School class home from The Prom. Less great if ur's played over footage of starving Ethiopian children as it was on Live Aid. Elsewhere they veer rather too much to the beige this time round.
