Jeanines - Don't Wait For a Sign

For those of a Twee Indie disposition  New Yorkers Jeanines have been a quiet thrill on the radar since their excellent, eponymous 2019 debut.

That was a record obviously indebted to the C-86 movement and umpteen obscure British Eighties jangly outfits. Second album Don't Wait For a Sign takes a welcome broader perspective.

What I'm reminded of, in addition to the aforementioned candidates, is the pure Folk sound of much female fronted Sixties pop. Sandie Shaw, Marianne Faithfull, Vashti Bunyan and Judy Dyble.

Lovely stuff all and Alicia Jeanine on the mic is more than up to it. There's a clarity and beauty about all thirteen songs here, all wonderfully short of two minutes in length that should more than reward repeated plays.

It;'s only April but I already may have found my record of the year of this sort already. Don't Wait For a Sign is a truly glittering gem.
