Song(s) of the Day # 3,275 Strange Neighbors

Young New York band who really sound like they hail from anywhere but New York. Instead they evoke most of all the sound of the jangly open road epitomised most of all by the likes of R.E.M, The Paisley Underground and The Swimming Pool Q's.

This ticks all of my boxes and has done ever since it kicked open so many doors for me back in the early Eighties. The guitars on the band's latest EP Party of Now may not be Rickenbackers but they sound a damn sight like they might be.

The trusty term 'Power Pop' comes immediately to mind. As does New Wave. You have to draw a line back to early Blondie most of all, if they had been more into The Byrds and The Searchers rather than The Shangri-Las. In the jingle jangle morning they'll come following you.
