Song(s) of the Day # 2,634 Bored Games

Obscurier and obscurier, the coolest early Flying Nun release with which to trump your hipper than thou music mate who you don't really think should still be behaving like this at their advanced age. Bored Games, (geddit!) with an EP called Who Killed Colonel Mustard full of Punk and New Wave thrills.  Happy Endings namechecks Marilyn Monroe and sounds not unlike something The Adverts might have snarled in 1978, frightening parents trying to have their tea in front of Top of the Pops. Nice tune mind.

I Don't Get It, comes on like Buzzcocks Nothing Left at All, then bounces around the room with New Wave vim like a fourteen year old overdosing on Lucozade. Joe 90, which takes its name from a Sixties little puppet boy who had superhero power, is total nonsense but at least has the good sense to be good fun.

Bridesmaid is unlikely ever to get to be a bride but at least has a good snog with the best man behind the reception hall. The whole package is inessential except for the sad likes of me and gives you an idea of what members of The Straightjacket Fits, The Stones, The Chills and The Doublehappys got up to before they became sensible and wandered off to their small parts in history.
