Song(s) of the Day # 2,645 IAN SWEET

A few terms back in my nine to five we had a rather sweet Chinese female student who chose to take the nickname Ian. Regardless of any cajoling efforts to persuade her to something else, she stuck to the name with a limpet like determination. She really wanted to be an Ian.

A similar case in point with this Show Me How You Disappear, the third album from Jilian Medford, going under the nom de plume IAN SWEET, (that's in capitals Pop Kids). This is a skewed, twisted pop record with treated vocals and instrumentation. A pretty good one at that. The melodies are strong and the songs come at you from and take you to unexpected places.

Nothing on here quite takes me to the astral plane after a few listens but it's certainly an interesting record with plenty of hooks to encourage further investigation. Not one for the higher echelons of my end of year list but a perfectly respectable and diverting album.
