Song(s) of the Day # 2,639 Loney Dear

A record that resonates with a Peter Gabriel like religious solemnity, so it's not a huge surprise to find that this is actually Gabriel endorsed and the artist concerned has just signed to his record label.

Loney Dear is the stage name of Swede Emil Svanangen and there is something about the still poise with which he presents himself that is highly reminiscent of prime time Gabriel. This is a factor that neither turns me on or off particularly. Always had some time for the man, in Genesis and afterwards, though I generally preferred him when he showed his sense of humour and creative flair and less when he went centre stage and they switched on the serious artiste spotlight for him.

Svanangen is terribly serious throughout and doesn't particularly seem to have the sense of humour card to play. This leads to half an hour of Nordic Torch Singer intensity. Not particularly my bag really. While saluting Svanangen's talent I'll leave his durm and strang to find its audience and for it to find him.
