Albums of the Year 1969

Onto 1969, the moon landing, the last real Beatles album, Altamont and Woodstock. Also some fine records. Here's the Top Ten for the year from the Best Ever Albums list.

1. The Beatles - Abbey Road

2. King Crimson - In The Court of the Crimson King

3. Led Zeppelin - II

4. Led Zeppelin - I

5. The Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed

6. The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground

7. Nick Drake - Five Leaves Left

8. Frank Zappa - Hot Rats

9. Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band - Trout Mask Replica

10. Miles Davis - In A Silent Way

Here's my own Top Ten solely composed of albums that I have a vinyl copy of. No attempt to say that these are that these are the best of the year. Just ranked in terms of my own personal favourites:

1. The Beatles - Abbey Road

2.  Miles Davis - In A Silent Way

3. Fairport Convention - Liege & Lief

4. Dusty Springfield - Dusty In Memphis

5. The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground

6. Led Zeppelin - I

7. Procol Harum - A Salty Dog

8. The Stooges - The Stooges

9. Townes Van Zandt - Townes Van Zandt

10. Flying Burrito Brothers - Gilded Palace of Sin

Five Leaves Left just misses the Top Ten sadly because I don't like it quite as much as I used to. Honourable mentions for Creedence, (three fabulous albums in one year, that's some work ethic), Joni, Santana, Moondog, The MC 5, Scott Walker, Dylan, Isaac Hayes, Neil Young, The Band, Crosby, Stills & Nash and many more.
