Song(s) of the Day # 2,244 A Girl Called Eddy

Following Marie McKee, who occupied this spot yesterday, here's another unexpected and welcome return. Erin Moran, who goes under the moniker A Girl Called Eddy released her debut album way back in 2004, and here, out of the blue, is her second Been Around, which arrived in January.

It's classic updated Brill Building pop, bringing Carole King most immediately to mind. The songs are exquisitely put together, yearning, soulful and deserving much greater acclaim and attention than they're likely to receive. Sadly, this seems destined to be the Adele album for the Indie set for 2020.

Released on the Spanish Elefant Records, generally home to everything jangly and C-89, this is something altogether apart and dare I say it mature, (much as I love that stuff of course). It's a record made for those laidback reflective moments, something to unwind to and really enjoy. A set of songs about lost and found love, hellos and goodbyes.

Moran has clearly studied her craft. There is the kind of schooling on here that graced the early Prefab Sprout records.  She clearly knows her Cole Porter and Tommy Dorsey in addition to her Baccarach, David and Carpenters. An altogether evocative and winning album.
