Parquet Court. 'Like a bunch of smart asses picked up guitars.' Nicely put A Pessimist is Never Disappointed, the excellent blog that heads the alphabetically sorted list to the right side of this page. I couldn't have put it better myself.
They're a band I'd really like to dislike frankly. They're so unbearably full of themselves. All the time. I can vouch for that. I've seen them live. Possibly the most consistently conceited hipsters to stalk the alternative circuit stages since Sonic Youth disbanded.
The problem is they're so damned good at what they do. You have to hand it to them even if you half want to strangle and despise them.
Such is the case once more with nominal Courts leader A. Savage and his latest record Several Songs About Fire. The songs are so damned full of themselves but they're also so incredibly inventive. Brimming with such ideas, vibrancy and colour that you have to admire the man while secretly cursing him for his barely concealed pomposity and self-regard..
Veering more towards the acoustic and laidback this time around Several Songs About Fire is further testimony to Savage's talent, if such testimony is really necessary anymoreat this stage. This should keep PC fanboys, (and I imagine there is such a thing), sated until their next record.
