50 Days of R.E.M. # 25 Drive


Automatic was something new for R.E.M. and Drive was a great way to kick off the record. Bleak, virtually paranoid but utterly assured, it was a model lesson in how to shift to another level commercially but maintain your dignity and focus. Michael flailing on a sea of bodies said it all about the pressures about being as ubiquitous in popular culture as they were for a few years.
