Song(s) of the Day # 2,346 Orlando Weeks

Pretty much a concept album about the miraculous personal experience of having a child from the father's perspective. Why didn't the Sex Pistols think of doing that?

It's a notable one too, a raw document of intimate, emotional honesty and a pleasure to come across a male artist willing to identify and recast and project his feelings and love for both his partner and his arriving son. The record itself is a wonderful one too. A happy bonus.

Orlando Weeks takes this most personal subject matter, after all, one of the miracles of existence,  and does it justice. A Quickening is a perfect record to listen to at the start or close of the day. A reminder of why we're here and why we need to make the most of the fact that we are.

Taking the lead from Talk Talk, Blue Nile and Bon Iver, the eleven songs here tell a very special story with beautiful intimacy and sensitivity. An incredible act of love and a record well worth hearing.
