Song of the Day # 1,328 The Dream Syndicate

On a day when most of the music world's attention will be focused on the release of The National's new album, (which I'll get to in time, sounds pretty good on first listen), I'll go to another record which comes out today instead. The Dream Syndicate, reunited since 2012, but dormant as a recording outfit since the eighties, are back and it sounds very much as if they've never been away. How Did I Find Myself Here is still their heroic mix of distorted twin guitar lead, (amped up to 11 in true Spinal Tap fashion), rock solid rhythm section and vague, existential LA dread. It's a fine record, an update of everything that made them great in the first place, more than fit to stand next to their eighties classics, Days of Wine & Roses, and Medicine Show.
