Song(s) of the Day # 288 Beth Orton

The first song from her first album and she will have done well if she's ever topped it. I remember this soundtracking a particularly bleak winter in my life when I was jobless, directionless and living in Brighton towards the end of the Nineties. This helped. It's very much of its time. It reminds me of those rave clubs round about then that would always have a chill out room which informed this kind of music. This sort of thing began to give folk a good name again. Now it almost seems to have taken over the mainstream. Not always in a good way. I've also posted the first song from Beth's second record which is great too!
