Bonnie & Sheila. Salt & Pepa. Pepsi & Shirley. Mel & Kim. Sam & Dave. Well, perhaps not. A mini-genre. A minor-classic. A little sister to Jean King's Mr Big Stuff. From a great compilation called Funk Soul Sisters which includes countless minor-classics, including Spanky Wilson's great version of Sunshine of Your Love. It seems this cut was their one shot at fame which makes it all the more remarkable.
'Bonnie Perkins and Sheila Howard only had one recording session at Malaco, as part of Wardell Quezergue’s iconic “Groove Me” date. The funky “You Keep Me Hanging On” was leased to King, without either of the singers being aware of this apparently, but sales were poor and they don’t seem to have pursued a musical career any further.'
