The Sound of Liverpool in 1980. This group featured Alan Gill and David Balfe who were also both in Teardrop Explodes line ups at various points. Gill was the man behind much of Reward while Balfe was Cope's arch nemesis within the band as can be seen in his excellent memoir about the times Head On. He also later was the inspiration for Blur's less than complimentary Kinks rip off and Number 1 Country House in the nineties when he became a record company exec.. So this front living room home made synth sound sounds dated and a bit twee now but it's a shame it should. Maybe that's not completely true anyway. There are still young new bands who play on Marc Riley's show who seem to aspire to this kind of sound.
