A record you can listen to sixty years on and more and feel we're still catching up. This came out when I was one and I bought it when I was 24 because it was one of those records I felt I ought to buy. It's a damaged and frantic record. Incredibly exciting but also slightly frightening. The music is only half the message. You need to read the sleevenotes and visualise the times and their tenor. As with all great albums of this era this is a matter of choice. The imaginations and energy which fuel it are genuinely inspiring. It's a pleasurable album but the dread, pleading and craving in its grooves are genuinely palpable..
