Pause for thought. We are as far away from the first couple of Arctic Monkeys albums as The Sex Pistols were from Elvis. I don't have particularly strong feelings either way about Arctic Monkeys. This is jolly energetic. Gathers momentum at a certain point and feels like getting drunk for the first time. or losing your virginity. But then you realise this is truly compelling narrative with elemnts of Greene and Fleming, the Kitchen Sink Angry Young Men novels and films.
