PAW, the new album by Neal Morgan has the most affecting record sleeve I've seen this year. A couple of giraffes, those most beautiful and intriging of creatures, their exquisite faces close together. One assumes sharing a moment of tenderness, Giraffes must be capable of love. Whyever not. Human beings cannot and should not assume exclusive ownership of this emotion.
PAW inutially struck me as slightly unremarkable and generic but investment is rewarded so I suggest you persevere. Morgan has a great CV, he's worked with Joanne Newsom, Bill Callahan Amen Dunes and others and he has honed and suble modes of creation and delivery. I have time, so I think I'll fix myself a cup of tea and wallow in this before I busy myself with ablutions and wardrobe.
Life is so hectic and frantic these days that we can forget the detail. PAW is an album that never loses sight of the moment and luxuriates in it, It's an excellent record that I recommend highly. Onwards and upward. Towards the light.
Well, this is marvelous! Started off pleasant, but gets better and better. Confounds expectations at every turn. Although I'm only halfway through (how long?!) so assuming it carries on in this vein.... Lovely stuff. Thanks Bruce! I can recommend the Spring Onion album from Friday.
ReplyDeleteI thought you might like this one Darren. Will get onto Spring Onion. High time for Spring! Thanks.
