The Loft were the kind of band I was hungry to see when I was 19 . They split onstage in the most dramatic circumstances at The Hammersmith Palais in a support slot with Colourfield in 1985. Terry Hall has gone now and The Loft have reunited. Finally recorded and released their debut album and I will see them next Friday evening at The Cluny 2 in Ouseburn Valley.. Everyone who remembers them fondly is older now. Wiser we hope.
The event of their split back in 1985 is recorded in the NME I'm in the process of chronicling here. Danny Kelly who was one of their biggest supporters mourns their loss and documents the savagery and discord of the night where they splintered and split. I look forward to next Friday night.
