Song(s) of the Day # 3,045 The Age of Colored Lizards

Ba, ba, ba choruses and bowl head haircuts. 14 Iced Bears and Razorcuts. Pale Saints even. What's not to like about a band from Oslo, Norway called The Age of Colored Lizards in thrall to this sound? They've been around for a few years now and latest album Scrap finds them in fine, fuzzy form.

This is melodic old school indie stuff. With a guitar sound that probably dates back most of all to Byrds '65-'67, a launchpad for so many great records two decades and more down the line.

Scrap is also pleasantly reminiscent of early My Bloody Valentine and Teenage Fanclub. Simple, crafted, honeyed songs, with a layer of hazy feedback to add an element of mystery and make you want to return to this and get to know the songs better.

Altogether a great record to chance upon at the beginning of a new month. Only eight songs long too so it doesn't outstay is welcome either.
