Songs that Mention Other Songs # 1 Orange Juice

You know me I’m acting dumb dumb, you know this scene is very humdrum, and my favourite song’s entitled “Boredom””

And from The Go Betweens to Orange Juice. A natural leap. Both bands put out records on Postcard Records. The label was put together mainly  for Orange Juice's benefit and then developed a roster to support them. I'm currently listening to You Can't Hide Your Love Forever, their first album, a brilliantly eclectic record. Virtually the definition of sunshine. This comes from their second album and was their lone OK chart hit. They'd jumped ship to major label by this point. The lyrics reference Boredom by Buzzcocks who were clearly an inspiration. It was the lead track from their first release Spiral Scratch which has a claim to be the first British independent record and the sole record they made with Howard Devoto in the band before he left them to form Magazine.
