'Moonwalks are a psychedelic garage rock outfit based between Detroit Mi and Brooklyn, NY.' This is a rather vexing and slightly irritating opening gambit for a Spotify bio. If they're between those two places why don't they want to tell the reader where they actually are ?!?. Never mind. They sound good. At least to my ears.
New album Western Mystery Tradition shows off all the shaded, black polo necked and pointy boot Nugget Garage moves. Strangeloves, via Sonics, via Cramps, Black Lips and Mystery Lights. With a few tricks of their own thrown in for good measure.
This stuff is painting by numbers. Of course it is. The blokes are guys, the girls are gals and the temperature's HOT! This whole routine was defined by 1966 and seeing as it's 2023 last time I looked, you mess with it at your peril these days.
Moonwalks, one guy and two gals with the required hairstyles and pert expressions are far too smart to do so. They're not as good as Mystery Lights whose return I wait for with baited breath but they're more than good enough for now.
