Song(s) of the Day # 3,477 Sarabeth Tucek

I was unaware of Sarabeth Tucek until a mention of her in this months Uncut Magazine gave me a nudge in her direction, I'm glad that's happened and am currently enjoying her latest album Joan of All.

Sarabeth speaks in a Rock and Roll patois that's well worn by now. That of Patti, Dylan and Lou and their Seventies records. There's interest in the biblical but this seems to stem primarily from much time spent listening to records by Patti, Lou and Bob. Joan of All follows these rules as if Charlton Heston has just descended Mount Sinai with them carved on tablets of stone.

This is Sarabeth's first record since 2011. Born in Miami, but brought up in Westfield, New Jersey, she had intended on pursuing a career in acting but like many people encountered Anton Newcombe of the Brian Jonestown Massacre and strayed from that path, never to return.

Joan of All is a classic American Rock & Roll album from the start. Guitars, bass, drums and organs played as if this is some kind of religious mystic rite and Eater, Desire and Street Hassle are the core texts.

I enjoyed listening to this record enormously yesterday. I'll listen to it plenty more. Maybe one for those who are still coming to terms with Verlaine's departure in January. This brings solace. She's playing Newcastle in September. I'll rollup.
