Stranded - Rock and Roll for a Desert Island # 1 Van Morrison - It's Too Late To Stop Now - Chosen by M.Mark

It's June so why not start another good, long series. This one based around the acclaimed American book a compilation of articles from music journalsits , released in 1979. Each chaprter itemises an album favourite of a particular writer. I'll try to read the chapter concerned every day and share anything I discover.

The first is an absoultely marvelous piece by M.Mark and Van Morrison, and the concept of Irishness. A beautiful, heartfelt piece about the man and his unique, poetic gift. Here's a paragraph:

'Van Morrison is Irish, Irish to his very soul. His songs take me home. If I were to be banished to some warm and dunny place with a single record to keep me company, I'd choose one of Vans. The music is a peculiar mix of moonstriuck story-telling and bar-band groove, country blues and R & B and gospel and jazz and soul. It's mystical Celtic poetry with a rock & roll beat and all the contradictions that amalgam implies - body and soul music which takes itself very seriously half the time.'
