50 Days of R.E.M. # 49 Crazy

There had to be at least one track from Dead Letter Office here and at least one cover, so it might as well be this, the album's opening track. Dead Letter Office was partly a contractual obligation to the bands record label IRS, and partly a grab bag of B Sides and throw aways of what made the band's early sound and approach such a joy. Peter Buck wrote the liner notes.

Crazy is a cover of a song from Pylon who were both Athens, Georgia friends of the band and early inspirations. R.E.M's constant commendations of the band in interview led me to discover Pylon for myself. What a band they are too. I'd direct you to either Gyrate or Chomp, their first two albums. Whether their version of Crazy or R.E.M's is better, I couldn't say. They're both pretty great!
