Sleater-Kinney, who have a career retrospective box set coming out on Sub Pop next week are a band that have inspired incredible eulogies over the years from music journalists and fellow musicians. Greil Marcus called them 'the best band in the World', others 'the best American Punk band ever'. R.E.M's Peter Buck has said they, "changed your perception of what rock'n'roll could be", adding: "Were they kindred spirits to REM? Absolutely. They were politically oriented without being real preachy… They were noisy, uncommercial, wilful". They were certainly special. Here's a choice of ten from them, chosen with a bit of help from Rob Sheffield, from throughout their career and their seven studio albums.
1. The Day I Went Away
2. I'm Not Waiting
3. Call The Doctor
4. One More Hour
5. Start Together
6. Get Up
7. Combat Rock
8. You're No Rock 'n' Roll Fun
9. Jumpers
10. Entertain
