Early Prefab Sprout is an interesting influence to start from. Hoops, out of Bloomington, Indiana are upfront about this and have a great, bright ringing sound that took me back to the early eighties while still feeling fresh. Certainly makes a change from The Velvet Underground, The Fall and Pavement.
